Recycling

The City of LaFayette wants to “Bee-Positive” and “Bee-Proactive” when it comes to our environment and one way the city sets an example is through its recycling program.

The City of LaFayette relocated its free to use recycling site to a new location after years of abuse and costs to its residents.

The City of LaFayette Recycling Site’s new location is now secured by a chain link fence at the City of LaFayette Utility Building located at 2776 US Highway 27 Bypass. The site is under 24/7 video surveillance with staff on hand.

The recycling program accepts a mix use of paper and plastics. We DO NOT accept Glass at this time. The city asks residents to please keep the area around the recycle bins clean by not placing any items on the ground.

Cardboard must be broken down so more can be placed within the container.

No household garbage is accepted.

Hours of Operation

Designated times are set within the fenced in site to allow residents to recycle their paper and plastic products to avoid any potential after hours abuse.

Recycling is available on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The city offers its residents a free single stream recycling service where paper, plastic, aluminum and tin can products can be mixed-together for recycling. The bins are picked up by Fontana and sent to West Rock Recycling in Tennessee and separated at a cost to the city.

An Earnest Approach

The purpose of the recycling program is to benefit the environment.

Recycling reduces the need for extracting (mining, quarrying and logging), refining and processing raw materials all of which create substantial air and water pollution.

Recycling allows for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, which helps to tackle climate change.

The single stream recycling service only allows for paper  and plastic products placed inside the bins. This does not include what was previously abused at the former site which included items like household garbage, furniture, appliances, etc.
